When you think back to your Kindergarten experience, "Play" was probably a memory that stuck out in your mind. Classrooms have been moving away from this idea, but I plan on incorporating it back into part of the Kindergarten experience. Play creates a culture of inquiry and problem solving, while providing opportunities for students to explore and create while gaining experiences with their peers. These wooden blocks will be used for my Building Area during our daily Choice Time. I am requesting a Master Set of 184 wooden blocks in 19 shapes. These blocks are made of solid hardwood maple which are kiln-dried, sanded and beveled for perfect building balance. While building with blocks, students learn about math, science, art, cooperation, spatial awareness, social and emotional development, fine and gross motor skills, and much more. This Building Center is one of seven centers offered each day. Other centers include Dramatic Play, Puzzles, Discovery (Science & Math), Art, and Sensory Investigation. These centers provide experiences for students to incorporate literacy, mathematics, science, and writing, all while building relationships with their classmates.
