Having the listening center will help remove any intimidation that my struggling readers may have with "cold call" reading aloud. The listening center that I will create with these listening center project items, will give my students freedom of choice and many opportunities to increase their phonemic awareness and their story comprehension skills. A listening center with a robust library will help give my struggling readers the confidence to improve their letter-sound correspondence, sight word knowledge and phonemic awareness. The center will open the door to new characters and stories that they can identify with.
