I'm the 8-12 English teacher at our small, rural district--I'm the department! I love getting to know my students over the five years I have them, and one of my greatest goals is for them to take risks--try new books, write in ways they've never tried before, do something different than their norm! My students were initially resistant to the SSR (sustained-silent reading) time that I added to our classroom, but now they are often begging to have more time to read. I love this!
