As I begin my journey as a third-grade teacher, my students will be working collaboratively on mastering concepts and understanding. This collaboration needs them to reach further than desks and chairs; it will require them to find inspirational spaces in the classroom to focus and challenge each other's learning. I am requesting wobble chairs, exercise balls, and seating pads. The items requested are in even numbers because of the desire to inspire students to collaborate. Along with collaboration, flexible seating will empower students to make their own choices and have accountability for themselves. Both of those concepts will be vital in their future educational success, no matter their learning needs. I am focusing on building social skills that are necessary for students to be successful in both school and life. These skills will encourage children to work smarter in a world that is changing faster each and every day. Preparing our children to be productive contributors to their communities and make choices for themselves start with appropriate learning environments like flexible seating.
