The Coronavirus has changed almost every aspect of the school day and with the chances of school closing again playing into every decision I make for my students; I need to capitalize on every minute my students are physically in my classroom. Rather than having the students congregate outside prior to school starting in the morning, they are coming directly into our classrooms adding a potential thirty minutes of time students are in the classroom. As many teachers are relying on technology during this half hour, I firmly believe students are spending too much time on technology at home and need to participate in hands-on, educational activities instead of turning on a game or a show. Support for my Morning Brain Bin project will make individual bins for my students that would include independent activities that they could work on until the school day starts. As student arrival is staggered, formal instruction cannot happen until the official day starts, this does not mean my students could not be working on educational, self-paced projects. Many of my materials are STEAM activities that encourage creativity. Items also will help create opportunities for literacy and fine motor practice. Morning Brain Bins will be rotated weekly. With the donations I will be able to have supplies to rotate bins out of use for natural sterilization before the next student uses the materials.
