My students come from hard working families in an urban midwest area. Parents are involved with their students, but do not have a lot of extra resources to buy books and other materials for their students. For the most part, my students do want to learn and want to read. With educational budget cuts, we do not have money to buy everything we need. I am discouraged when my students want to read and we just do not have books that are interesting or motivational at their level. My class has a very diverse range of reading abilities, and diverse backgrounds. I try to make sure that we have interesting materials that are based on both.
