Flexible seating and an organized classroom environment allows students to choose how they want to complete tasks. During independent work time I allow my students to choose a variety of locations to complete tasks such as: at different tables, on wobble seats or ball chairs, sitting on the carpet with clip boards, or standing at a table. Making sure students are comfortable and able to choose what works best for them is essential to teaching them an understanding of self, and helps to motivate them. I have noticed that my students are more engaged when they are allowed a choice and their environment is organized. They almost always make good choices, complete their tasks, and follow classroom rules when they are offered structured flexibility.
