My non English speaking students come from Cuba, El Salvador, Mexico and Sweden. They all come from very poor families that have very little resources available to them. Because they are in high school, they are mainstreamed into regular classrooms even before they can speak English. Those students are usually the ones who end up dropping out of high school or are overlooked by the teacher because of the obstacles they must overcome to achieve.
