All students should have the opportunity to make music. Many of my students don't have parents that play an instrument, or are exposed to concerts, nor do they have access to music hands-on. With these resources for the classroom, the students can learn about music in various countries, use their hands to create a brand new experience, and build a community within their own classroom. So many of the students have never touched a drum or seen sheet music or found a creative outlet. The ribbons allow for creativity with body movement as well as learning about Chinese ribbon dancing. Students holding a drum or the mallets to the xylophone get the opportunity to create unique sounds or even their own composition! Team work, creativity, and the adventure of stepping into a new culture can all happen in a music classroom. These supplies will increase student involvement and may spark a new interest a student didn't even know they had.
