Students will be provided the opportunity to read 2017 Newbery Contenders with their peers in a literature circle format. After reading each book, the students will be able to discuss the current and diverse topics with their classroom peers. Students will evaluate each Newbery contender using a class created rubric. The Mock Newbery Challenge will engage all reader and promote positive interactions within the classroom. Having a classroom full of current literature will allow the students to expand their reading resume. The Mock Nebery Challenge will promote and celebrates reading in my classroom. I want my students to embrace the opportunity to become successful readers in the classroom and lifelong learners in the world. .
