Our Title 1 school serves a diverse population of students. Most teachers share a classroom with at least one other teacher, and our rooms are jam-packed with growing eighth graders, many of whom go home to a house without a quiet place to work and grow. I teach Honors Literacy to eighth graders, and also teach a special needs literacy class. Our students' needs range from learning to financial, and teachers work together with administrators to meet those needs with very limited resources. Ask any student if they would rather sit in rows facing a teacher, or sit and work together with ample creative space, and they'll always choose the collaborative option. I have been blessed with some amazing, thoughtful, energetic kids, but in order to truly tap into that potential, we need a proper learning environment.
