Because I will only be working with several students at a time, I hope to use flexible seating as an incentive for giving their best effort during their time with me. It not only allows them to make choices regarding how they learn and focus best, but it makes them more comfortable and will help them feel more excited to be pulled from their peers to come work with me. And, let's face it, getting to choose your seat as a student is a big deal! Students are more motivated to work when given a choice in their seating, and they (usually) make the right decision when given the freedom to choose their learning environment. Some of the options I hope to offer my students are different types of yoga balls (some with legs and some on rollers), adjustable wobble chairs that allow for movement, barstools at both regular table and bar height, floor donuts, beanbags, and more! I will keep several regular desks in my room as well, as some students learn best the "old-fashioned" way!
