Third graders are beginning to become more independent with their learning. They love to sit around the room, and are excited to learn when they have a flexible environment. I would like to provide my students with seating opportunities that give them the freedom to move their bodies and develop strength while reading and learning. My instruction normally includes 30 minutes of independent reading and writing, and small group instruction. During this time, students will be able to utilize the seating options. Currently, the students use distracting movements while they are independently working such as kicking their feet, tapping, and rocking in their stationary chairs. The yoga balls and rocking stools that I have requested will give these students the opportunity to move in ways that stimulate their brain function without causing any distracting noises or movements. This will I would like to have this flexible seating available for every student so that they are able to open up their imagination and get lost in their book for an independent reading time.
