Flexible seating gives students the ability to choose a comfortable place to do their best learning. Just like all adults work differently, all students learn differently! Rather than sitting at an assigned desk students are encouraged to take ownership of the class materials and their own learning. So far this year my students have utilized several types of flexible seating including pillows, yoga balls, and carpet squares. Giving students the choice of where they do their work has done wonders for our classroom climate. I've noticed that students are more excited to get off to their independent work and have an easier time staying focused. Though I have been able to use some of my own money and budget to provide a small selection of seating tools I would love to have the opportunity to provide my students with even more choices to aid their learning!
