My classroom is full of students who are bright in so many ways. Their hands go up every morning to share their stories enthusiastically. The self-confidence radiates from them when they get an answer right. They amaze me every day in some new way. The student who leans over to help their neighbor when they notice they struggle, the poem that puts what most adults can write to shame, and the moment a student with poor behavior improves, even by a little. My school is full of teachers who are giving up their free time (and sleep) to benefit our students, to give them all we have. They're creating hands-on learning experiences that engage their students interests (which isn't always easy at the middle school age!). You can hear music in the halls from a classroom analyzing lyrics and walk into the auditorium to see a reenactment of a war. We struggle with a low socio-economic status, the issues going on for our students beyond the school setting, and much more but we give it all we have.
