Read 180 focuses on building the achievement level of struggling readers. It allows the students to practice comprehension and fluency skills through the Read 180 software and small group activities. Students need to read aloud into their microphone-equipped headsets to show fluency and complete assignments in the software. Quality headsets are vital in allowing the students to be heard without shouting into the microphone and feeling embarrassed about their voices. Too many of my students experience insecurities within themselves and do not want to read aloud or get the help they need. Using the headphones we have now, the students have to shout into the microphone to be heard and they get very embarrassed and lose motivation. They do not want the attention on them while they are reading. By getting a better quality headset, we can hope that they feel more comfortable reading aloud and less concerned about what others think about their reading abilities.
