Students in the 21st century need to be able to learn in new and modern ways. Flexible seating is one of the ways students can have a say in their learning environment. Research shows that when students have choices they feel in control, and when they feel in control they are more engaged and motivated to learn. This is why flexible seating is so important! Would YOU want to sit in an uncomfortable spot all day long?! Of course not! By providing students with a variety of comfortable seating options teachers not only make students more comfortable throughout the school day, they also encourage a strong classroom community environment. Middle school students need learning environments that help develop their critical thinking skills as well as their social and emotional growth. By creating an environment of collaboration and cooperation students gain the benefits of both. Flexible seating has been researched and proven to improve students' feelings about the classrooms, the motivation to work, and has been shown to increase student growth on assessments. Help my students become 21st century learners!
