My classroom is designed to be cheerful and comfortable for 25+ 5th graders. I like to have a variety of seating options for students to choose from while working, including lap desks, bean bags, multi-seat tables, etc. While everyone does have a designated seat, I also have a whole group instruction area where we gather on the carpet for discussions or a big-screen technology-based lesson. Plants are an important part of our environment. It gives students an opportunity to care for something, as well as helping to create a calming space.
