Everyone needs social skills. Often times these skills are taught to us from a young age, starting at home. We get to go with our parents to different places, learning the varying social skills necessary for those places. Yet, some children are not able to get those skills from home. This is where I come in.
Social skills are those skills that you need but don't think about. They may come easily to some people while other people really struggle with them. When working with my students, my first priority to give them the skills they will need to be successful, functional people as they move into middle school, high school and even beyond.
This is where my project comes in. My students need these skills but need them in a way that will be interesting and engaging to them. I have noticed this year that my students love being read to. With these books, I can read to the students as well as have a good discussion with them and teach them very necessary skills.
