My AP English Language class encourages all students to push themselves to become more critical and fluent readers and writers. Throughout the year, we prepare for the rigors of a college classroom and the realities of the modern world. To do this, my students must learn to engage in the world in a thoughtful, critical, and purposeful way. It is my ultimate goal to prepare each student who spends a school year in my classroom to be an active and informed citizen of the world, to be a curious and engaged member of society, and to value knowledge and education as highly as any material possession. In general, my students are from socio-economically disadvantaged neighborhoods, and many of them are first-generation high school graduates and/or college applicants; however, all of them are committed to receiving a quality education and work hard in the pursuit of better opportunities for themselves.
