Hello I have taught for 9 years in very high poverty inner-city schools. This year I had the opportunity to be a part of a start up charter school in a failing public school district. Since we are a start up school we have little to no funding. Our school is in a very old building in a high poverty area of Michigan. Many of my students come from very difficult situations. My goal every year is to build a community in my classroom, and a loving and caring environment. I make sure that I am the constant in their young lives. This year is not different, in all 9 years of teaching I have never had a class that has needed so much emotionally and academically. This is a challenge every day, but teaching with love and nurturing is what will help these children the most. The resources that I receive will be a bonus for them to make their kindergarten experience everything that it is meant to be.
