At this age, it is so important to develop a love of literature and reading. It is also essential that children are exposed to a variety of cultures and family structures. In our classroom, we are fortunate enough to have many students that represent a variety of cultures and students that come from many different family structures. It is essential that we instill, not only a love for literature, but a love for one another as we develop an understanding of cultures and family structures that may not represent our own. These multi-cultural books will allow my students to see themselves in the books that they read. They are focused on themes like family, immigration, and a variety of cultures. They will be used to encourage conversation among my students as we grow together in our classroom family to appreciate diversity.
