Incorporating stools, swivel chairs, wobble cushions, and standing tables provides students with opportunities to learn what style works best for them. Children need to move and need to be given choices. Throughout the day, the students will have opportunities to move around the classroom and choose a seat or area that works for them. I will incorporate different tables, desks, clip boards, and lap desks to go with the seating options that I have already been trying in my classroom. The variety of seating will increase the amount of flexible seating I can provide. By having multiple seating options, my students will feel empowered to make decisions and take ownership in their learning. Not only will students choose which style of seating that is comfortable, but they will have the power to get up and move as needed. Flexible seating encourages collaboration, choice, a sense of community, and sensory input for those students who need to wiggle.
