I want to provide meaningful opportunities to develop oral language in my classroom. We have always retold stories aloud, but the storytelling I want for these children is much more than recalling information verbally. I want there to be excitement over reenacting the story with props and characters using different voices and pretending we were just there witnessing the events. I want storytelling to be memorable for the children.
Storytelling will enhance the children's language skills by providing experiences for the them to retell familiar stories using hand-on manipulatives and props for acting. The storytelling kits are perfect because they include the board book for durability and the character pieces to help children recall and retell the story with ease. The storytelling puppets include characters from familiar nursery rhymes and will be used in a similar manner. They would have the materials they needed to learn in a meaningful way. Wouldn't you love to see different groups of four and five year olds perform stories for each other?
