These items will not only reward these students for their achievement of admission to college, but it will also provide them with supplies needed for a smooth transition to college and independence. Many of their families will not be able to provide them the "fun" and necessary things to get ready for college. We will provide every college-going senior with a flash drive for their college papers and then have the other items given out as door prizes during the celebration event.
This will also bring attention to the college-going culture we are trying to expand on our campus. If we can have a celebration worth talking about, staff and students alike will be talking about college and post-secondary plans as early as freshman year. We started the school year with a college application jumpstart, had our College Application Week, College Information & Financial Aid nights, and this event will be the culmination of the students' and families' diligent work to make their dreams of college come true.
