Sensory materials and a clam-down corner are in high demand in the K2 ASD classroom. Social-emotional skills are a huge focus for the students in the class. Each student learns differently. They all have various sensory and social-emotional needs. Being a new teacher, I need sensory materials for the classroom. Sensory toys help children with autism focus and calm down when feeling discomfort. Our calm-down corner is an area where students can process their emotions and take a body break. The goal would be to have a space where students can work through their feelings with/without adult support and return to the group. We will also be using the calm-down corner as a place for the students to take a body break. We will also use the different fidgets, weighted vest, and seating options to use while in whole groups or small groups.
