The students in my class attend school in the heart of South Central, Los Angeles in a small community known as Watts, CA. Many of my students have been exposed to things in life that are well beyond their years and most people would not be aware of. These students live at or below poverty level face challenges of gangs, violence, drugs, homelessness as well as many other things that we couldn't imagine. Despite all of this, these students come to school daily and are expected to gain literacy and be successful in their academic careers. They have strong desires to learn, however they face many challenges and struggles in the school as most of them are English Language Learners struggling to master the English language as English is their second language or they are Standard English learners. I want success for all of my students and I know that with the right amount of support and resources they will be great!
