My Jobs for America's Graduates' students attend a rural high school in a small district with an 95% poverty rate. To address the needs of our community, they run a food pantry from a portable classroom, serving approximately 120 families twice a month. This food pantry not only provides nourishment to impoverished families, it provides our students with a sense of community and improves their sense of worth. Through their work in the pantry, students gain leadership skills and organizational abilities. They learn how to provide quality customer service and improve their ability to communicate with others. Moreover, they use these skills to build their resumes and help them find jobs beyond graduation. In addition, students in this program boast a greater than 95% graduation rate.
