I want my students to proceed with as much speed, energy, motivation, and excitement as possible going into the school year. This project is will be used to serve the 4th grade students I teach in math and science. It will be used through the year on a daily basis. I will implement the S.T.E.A.M activities during my small group instruction time. During this time students will build and construct objects that will require them to use measurements, volume, and mass. This implementation will create a more student-centered learning space and produce effective learning through a better cognitive performance. S.T.E.A.M activities will improve critical thinking skills by requiring students to analyze information and present well thought out answers. Through S.T.E.A.M activities students will build rigor, take risks, work collaboratively, improve critical thinking skills (which will ultimately improve their FSA scores), encourage S.T.E.A.M careers, and prepare students for everyday life. S.T.E.A.M activities will improve critical thinking skills by requiring students to analyze information and present well thought out answers. They will be engaged in a host of problem-solving activities where they will have to come up with a solution and test the solution to see what their outcome is. In order to achieve a desired outcome, students must analyze information, develop foresight, evaluate situations, and actively listen to each other. They will have to effectively communicate with each other to find solutions to complex problems. My project will incorporate financial literacy through the discipline of math. Math matters in everyday life. The activities the students complete will teach them to be financially savvy. They will learn about money, percentages, fractions etc... These skills and real-world activities will enable them to become a financially responsible citizen.
