A typical child starting elementary school with high phonemic awareness is almost certain to become a confident reader. A child with low phonemic awareness will almost definitely struggle with reading. Sight word and rhyming activities bring reading to life! Learning alphabets, sight words, and rhyming words are crucial for young readers who need to build a foundation for reading and writing sentences. Playing games is a great way to learn and reinforce the words and skills students need to advance their reading or literacy skills. My kindergarten students will benefit a great deal by using these learning activities in our classroom.
