Our students come to school with a poverty of Language. The manipulatives I have chosen will be featured in Work Stations designed to encourage Talk Time. Stations will also contain sentence stems so that the students’ Language will be structured as they converse. Activities will be directed so that students will learn new words and how to use them effectively in sentences. As Language is developed, we will transition to writing. Students will have opportunities to participate in teacher-led writing which will describe and explain the Work they have accomplished in stations. Students will also be encouraged to draw/write regarding their experiences and “read” their picture/writing to their classmates.
