For years, students have learned about scientific discoveries, the impact of history on current events, the environment, and people living around the world through reading current events periodicals such as Scholastic News. Scholastic News, a current events and informational magazine for students, and the other reading materials requested (Storyworks, which provides students with a variety of quality short stories and non-fiction essays, and Super Science, which provides articles relating to the major areas of science, prompting further research) will arrive throughout the school year, providing the opportunities for reading, writing, and meaningful discussions on a wide variety of topics on a daily basis. Students will receive their copies of Scholastic News every Monday morning. Guided reading groups, teams, and individual students will utilize a variety of methods and techniques to dig deeper into the topics offered in each periodical. They will research, discuss, and write about topics of current interest as highlighted in the Scholastic News.
