These books will make a huge difference in my students' learning. Not only will my English learners be able to read these books in my ESOL classroom, but the books will be available for teachers in my school to check out and use with all of the students in their own classrooms as well.
Multicultural books are necessary to teach students about diversity and to help them learn about the different cultures within their own classroom.
My students need books with characters that they can relate to, as well as books that they can connect to their own background knowledge. A large number of my students have recently moved to the United States and are just learning how to read in English. Although many of these students are reading on grade level in their native language, most of them are reading significantly below grade level in English. These bilingual books are instrumental in helping them comprehend English texts, as well as helping them to feel successful by reading fluently in their native language.
