Fostering a love of reading in my classroom is essential. I've been able to create a collection of books in the past year that has satisfied my in-person learners and been something I could use as a tool to create excitement for my virtual learners. When evaluating the needs for my upcoming students, though, I realized I was missing a vital piece of the puzzle to make my library truly complete. Students need to see themselves in literature to make genuine connections with text. While I have some diverse literature in my library currently, I do not have the representation present to show my students themselves in the entirety of my classroom library. As we embark this year on an exploration of activism and community work, they need to see positive figures represented from their own backgrounds in my library.
