Using the novel, Stargirl, as whole class novel to read aloud as a class and in small reading groups, will give my students an engaging reading experience. This book teaches about the struggles middle school students face and how to be empathetic to others when they are different from you. It is one every student can relate to in some way. I use small reading groups in my classroom to help students feel comfortable reading aloud and to work together to share their ideas, feelings, and opinions about the texts we read in class.
