My students are immigrants from Puerto Rico, Albania, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic and Mexico. They are learning listening, speaking, reading and writing in English. This is not an easy task but it makes my job as interesting as it is challenging. My students are the greatest kids! They are friendly, energetic, talented and hardworking. They do not let the obstacles in their lives stop them from immersing in school life. Our school is one of the biggest in Connecticut with 750 students. 50.4% of them are Hispanic second language learners and 89.8% qualify for free or reduced lunch. Being in an inner city school we do not have the material resources, such as new technology, that other schools have. We need to beat the odds that are against us and still succeed in school. That is where your help is needed.
