Every year, I purchase a classroom carpet for the students to feel comfortable and to support the student to student collaboration. However, a carpet without squares causes the students to overcrowd one another creating distractions from listening to the lesson that is being taught. Due to the limitations of our classroom budgets, I currently do not have the funds to purchase a carpet that fits the needs of my students. A large carpet with squares will create a safe and caring space for each individual. I will allow the students to pick their own spots on the carpet at the beginning and if they are unable to be responsible and respectful I can assign a spot for them. Assigning a spot for students would maximize their view and their ability to focus and learn.
