I teach at a Title I school that most students are on free or reduced lunch. My first grade ESOL students come from homes that speak little or no English. They come to school to learn, be safe, and have big dreams. Most are labeled high risk in reading, but they are highly motivated to learn. I foster their learning providing them with different learning experiences. I want to make sure that ALL my students are learning. Every year I have some students that come to my class speaking little or no English. At times it is hard for me to find activities for them to do during Reader's Workshop independently. Interactive listening centers that provide step by step directions for them would make them successful in learning English and gaining the skills to be good readers.
