Our school is a suburban and in a middle income community. Most of the families are involved as best they can be given circumstances: I usually have many phone conferences because of single parents working two jobs. Education is important to both the parents and the students. My class has a variety of levels of learners represented. Of the 31 students, less than half are currently reading on grade level; while a fifth are reading above grade level. I have four that are identified as EIP, early intervention program, and they are pulled out for 20 minutes to review skills. The students overall need as much one on one and small group instruction as possible in both reading/ language arts and in math. As math students, they are also in a variety of places. Some quickly obtain concepts while others struggle with basic facts and math number sense.
