There is so much to be said for offering choice in the classroom. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make choices that work best for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. Students who get to have a choice in where they sit are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at a table or desk. Flexible seating encourages students to move, collaborate, communicate with their peers, and develop thinking skills. Fulfilling this choice allows students to be comfortable and more willing to participate and stay focused. Allowing students the choice in where they sit also improves their physical health and increases the flow of oxygen to the brain. Seating options also allow for sensory input and stimulation that some students need to help process information. Offering many different choices and opportunities allows all of the students in my room to be comfortable, while providing them the tools they need to be successful and ready to learn each day!
