I teach kindergarten in a Title I elementary school. This means that a majority of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch, and come from low income homes. For most of the students, my kindergarten class is their first exposure to school. These students don't have access to free preschool. Flexible seating is an option that I'd love to pursue. For the upcoming school year, I will have up to 24 students. It will be approximately half boys and half girls. I know that I have at least 3 students on an Individual Education Plan for behavioral concerns. There is not an aide in my classroom. I want to provide a flexible seating environment for my kindergarten students. These 5-6 year olds need the opportunity to move freely around the classroom in order to learn to their highest ability. Traditional seating will still be available for those students that need it.
