My students are most engaged and excited when we are reading together as a whole class or reading in literature circle small groups. Even students who don't regularly read, enjoy reading together with their peers and discussing what's happening and how it relates to their own lives! When the students are engaged in our class novel or their literature circle book, they don't even realize they're learning the standards I need to teach. It's an amazing thing to see! Having a diverse selection of books for them to choose when we do read in groups, or even on their own from my classroom bookshelf, is invaluable!
