The demands of school can be very stressful for students. I believe that we must teach children ways to calm themselves when they are feeling anxious, worried, angry or even sad. These are strategies they will be able to take with them throughout their school career and beyond. Children must be taught specific ways to control their emotions in a healthy way. Something as simple as picking up a "Liquid Motion Spiral Timer Toy for Sensory Play" or "Toysmith Bubble Motion Tumbler" and watching it move, can instantly relieve stress. These items can also bring down the energy level of the classroom down when needed. A couple specific times of the day that our energy level is the highest is during lunch and playtime. After both of these times, we take 5 minutes of quiet time to get refocused and ready for our next task. Students may choose to read, color or just rest while relaxing music is playing in the background. Through this project, I will be able to offer another choice to all of my students that I know they will look forward to!
