This year I have the pleasure to teach English Language Learners (ELL). As an ELL myself, this experience has brought me full circle. As an ELL who did not speak English when I started school, I remember how difficult it was to navigate through my learning. The support was lacking in many areas, and sadly, I did not believe in myself. Acknowledging the talents, creativity and perspective that my students bring despite not being native English speakers, is something that I verbally share with them on a daily basis. I am a true believer that all kids "know stuff!" We have to create the space that makes them feel comfortable and safe to make mistakes and take risks. My students do just that on a daily basis. They are fearless, smart, intelligent, motivated learners that want nothing more than to do their best and learn. They inspire me every day!
