We need resources that will provide incentive and create a positive learning environment. These games Buzzword, Apples to Apples, Word Slam, Scrabble, Exploding Kittens and Blurt will also stimulate conversation and help build skills and strategies for students that are struggling readers. My students can bolster their reading skills, participate in the social constructs of playing a game and hopefully make the their view of reading as mundane change to dynamic. Struggling readers can often times suffer from a weak vocabulary so these word games will help them strengthen and broaden their personal word bank. Vocabulary development is contingent upon repetition, practice, and the ability to recall words and meanings rapidly. Just reading traditional texts will not give the students enough opportunity to use new vocabulary.
