These materials will give students the opportunity to fully engage in a project that demonstrates the advancement of transportation from our unit on Developing a Nation. They will be able to have a hands-on activity where they can create their own wagon that will take them back to a time during the Oregon Trail. It is difficult to engage a class of such diverse students, therefore this project will help engage all learners.
Students will be given a lesson on The Transcontinental Railroad system and the Oregon Trail. Students will use these model kits to create their very own covered wagon. They will be able to see the structure of the wagon and imagine themselves traveling across the nation in the early 1900's.
Furthermore, students are rarely given the opportunity to create projects and engage in hands on activities directly related to curriculum. This will impact the students in a positive way and will allow them to have a memorable experience of our Developing Nation.
