The nine students in my classroom range in age from eleven to fifteen, however their cognitive and social skills range from those of an eighteen-month-old to a five-year-old. Most of them use sign language or other non-verbal methods of communication and receive speech and/or occupational therapy services. Our entire school is for students with moderate to severe disabilities that need life-skills based instruction. While students learn basic academics, they need additional daily practice in a variety of skills to be successful in a job placement.
