By offering flexible seating, students feel empowered. Simply choosing a new seat and a new place to work, students get choice and feel some control. Furthermore, some of my students have special needs and benefit from moving locations and positions often. During independent work times, students can choose their favorite location in the classroom in which to work. Currently, when my students have independent working time, they can move their chairs to a few empty tables in the back of my room. Some students prefer to sit on the ground with clipboards. When I give students the choice of where to sit, they always get excited and work harder. Something as simple as a new seat can really motivate my students. The products I selected are called portable lounging chairs. These seats will allow my students to sit on the ground comfortably. Six of the seats I chose are for students to sit directly on the ground (padded bottom) with a supportive back. The other 4 seats I am purchasing are called portable lap desks. The seat has a "desk" attached to the floor seat. Students can comfortably sit on the floor while the desk pops up for them to put their computers or work on. Both of these items fold flat and have a strap so they are easily carried and stored. I am excited to introduce these new seating options for my students!
