I teach Algebra I and Algebra Readiness (Math 180) at a very small, rural school in Southwest Virginia. These are the lowest math students in the school. While some live and work on family farms, other students live in one of the several trailer parks in our zone, and still others live in single family homes. We have an 8% diversity rate and a 57% free and reduced lunch rate. The small city my school is located in is very low income and has a very low education rate. Math does not come easy to my students. I strive every day to create innovative, interactive, and hands on ways to present material and have my students practice it.
