My students are suffering from an 89% poverty rate. It is not guaranteed that they would be able to afford the supplies on their own, nor is there a guarantee that the district can provide these supplies. I myself am prepared to provide the supplies out of pocket if necessary, but also have 4 children of my own to support. My students need these supplies to successfully pass my class. Our curriculum is largely writing based, therefore my students each need a composition notebook, folder, and pencil. My students will use the mead composition notebooks daily doing journals and free-writes, and the pocket folders will come in use when handing out excerpts from the reproducible books.
